Since The Maidan was launched in March 2015, we have been productively and enthusiastically written about world issues: Politics, history, art, science, and philosophy. Our readership has grown from nothing to something. We have students wanting to write for this publication. We have circulated it around the world, the high school (Cambridge Rindge and Latin School), and the Harvard community. Our name, though modest, is starting to increase. People are noticing our words and thoughts.

Although our size and name has not yet reached the heights we hope to attain, our appetite to churn out more pieces has increased. We want to publish our thoughts about issues – high school students’ opinion on matters. Therefore, it is hardly surprising to hear words such as “anti-intellectual” and “no one cares about it” from some students at high school.

Our dear slanderers fail to realize that when “no one cares about it,” then truly everyone cares about it. Discussing it helps our mission of making it known. Though we want to make people happy and satisfied reading our material, competition and criticism never ceases. To the slanderers of The Maidan, we thank you for your efforts; we will attempt to reach the heights of perfection in our articles -- “anti-intellectual[ism]”will not suit us.

2015 has been a historical year for The Maidan. We launched the publication, and since then we have grown and learned from our mistakes. If writer Oscar Wilde’s words in the title give us encouragement for our efforts, then we embrace them. We hope to have another productive and joyful year.
