Mid-October saw the murder of a Muslim man for apparently storing beef in his house. This was in the wake of the banning of beef. The man, Mohammad Akhlaq, was beaten by a mob with Hindu right affiliations. There is a growing intolerance in India for other religions, particularly Islam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remained quiet over the issue until finally breaking his silence. However, whether the PM’s words hold sway remains to be seen.
Elsewhere, China’s Premiere, Xi Jinping was in the United Kingdom for a state visit. His visit, however, was most notable for Paul Powlesland’s, a British civil law barrister, confrontation of the Chinese Premiere’s supporters. He questioned them on the human rights record in China, which prompted people from around the world to praise his efforts
